It's paved and not too steep. And the view reward is the best relative to the effort. I've hiked it once, a few years back, with my (then) infant daughter in a front carrier. We're heading up this weekend and would love to take her (now 3 years old), her sister (14months) and my niece who would be in a jogging stroller. Do you think it can be done with young kids? And more specifically, with a jogging stroller? My brother is hoping to pop the question to his girlfriend at the lookout, and we want the whole family there to witness! Thanks! Just ten days ago, we brought a friend from out of town to see it. The views were as gorgeous as ever.
ToddTodd Borghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09953634573450944369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5956475600408143951.post-13644037435634775362015-11-09T12:35:16.867-08:002015-11-09T12:35:16.867-08:00Fun to see your description and pictures, Todd. It's a place that's always been dear to my family's hearts---in fact the circle trail and signs were done by our family and friends of my brother, Lin, in his memory. So be sure to say hi to him when you're up there-- no question that his non-physical essence is there enjoying all who are looking at the fabulous views from his special pace! Cave Rock is directly above the water and has fantastic views. I excluded it because Cave Rock is a sacred Washoe Indian site, a place that they would prefer people don't climb. It was for this reason that the Forest Service removed all climbing aids from the rock and banned rock climbing. Yes, I featured it in one of my books, which was probably inappropriate, although I did try to communicate how important it was to the Washoe. If readers do want to hike it, please be aware that it does require a little bit of hand use and and requires a touch of physical skill beyond that typical "hike." The top is also uneven. I would recommend that people don't bring young children up there.
Thanks!
ToddTodd Borghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09953634573450944369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5956475600408143951.post-49045926600742118872014-05-24T17:28:33.139-07:002014-05-24T17:28:33.139-07:00There is one 'higher angle, easy to access'...There is one 'higher angle, easy to access' vista point I can think of. On top of Cave Rock (the rock Highway 50 has a tunnel passing through) near Zephyr Cove. If you take the road right after the tunnel on the left when heading towards south lake, drive up less than a half mile and park at the first switchback in the road going right. There is a well worn dirt trail at the switch back that you can follow up to the top of Cave Rock. It's about 380 feet above the shoreline but it is nearly, directly on top of the shore line. Darn near 90 degrees above the lake with nothing larger to block your view in any direction except directly behind you while facing the lake.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5956475600408143951.post-12834187870269356122013-06-10T12:34:05.074-07:002013-06-10T12:34:05.074-07:00Hi Mark,

This is a great one for when you just have a half-day to spare.
